Zurich, Switzerland – 1st Lt. Rebecca Jeffrey from Headquarters Company, 1st Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, and Sgt. 1st Class Alexander Anderson, Medical Platoon Sergeant from Charlie Company, 601st Aviation Support Battalion, 1st Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, took first place in the international Festivus Games CrossFit competition novice category held on April 27th in Zurich, Switzerland.
These soldiers from the 1st Combat Aviation Brigade decided to participate in the competition during off time from their rotational deployment as part of the U.S. Military’s Atlantic Resolve mission.
“We competed against teams from all over Europe,” said 1st Lt. Rebecca Jeffrey. “It was really exciting because it was my first competition. I only started doing CrossFit this February when we got here.”
When asked about her experience in the competition, Jeffrey stated that it was a great learning experience and opportunity to interact with so many competitors from different nations. She also said that she believes strongly in her commander’s philosophy, “Fit for battle, fit for life,” and applies it to her daily routine.
As the fictitious holiday “Festivus” was introduced in the 1990s television show Seinfeld, the Festivus Games takes on a similar light-hearted spirit with “feats of strength” designed for the average person, or to quote the show, “for the rest of us.” The competition is held in Switzerland semi-annually.
