Story by Senior Airman Daniel Hambor

    47th Flying Training Wing

There are not too many jobs where “man’s best friend” is also your partner at work.

One of those exceptions is the 47th Security Forces Squadron military working dogs team, who everyday patrols, trains, and works with K-9 dogs to detect and deter illegal contraband or people with less-than-noble intentions.

“I love the job. I’ve wanted to do this ever since I was a kid,” said Staff Sgt. Codey Doehrmann, 47th SFS military working dogs trainer. “Coming through the gate as a kid, I’ve always seen the dog handlers and always wanted to do that. I get to come to work and play with a puppy all day—what’s better than that?”

The MWD team, because of their visibility around base, are always looking for opportunities to demonstrate their abilities and roles to the public. Along with demonstrations, the team is always looking for people to slip on the all-famous bite suit and see firsthand what the dogs are capable of.
