Approximately 300 Fort McCoy community members gathered May 15 for the annual Wellness Fair and 5k run/walk.

The Wellness Fair promotes healthful living. Both runners and walkers had to chance to get active and enjoy pleasant weather. Nicholas Vance and Kaitlin Malwitz won in the male and female divisions for the 5k.

The Area Business Showcase was held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122. More than 50 vendors attended the event, providing information on local health- and military-related services. The vendors covered a variety of topics, including healthful eating, medical care, exercise and activity opportunities, and education services.

Lunch was available to purchase during the event. Fair attendees also had a chance to win one of 50 door prizes that were donated by vendors and sponsors, including kayaks, bikes, a cooler, and a smoker/grill.

The winners of the “Weightloss for Wellness” competition were announced at noon. Alex and Elizabeth Bess won the competition, which was a team event challenging community members to pair up and see who could lose the most weight in a six-week span. Participants weighed in at Rumpel Fitness Center at the start and end of the competition.

The event is organized by the Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (DFMWR) as part of the Army Strong B.A.N.D.S. program.
