U.S. Army Story by Spc. Yon Trimble
ZAGAN, Poland – Soldiers with the 101st Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, participate in Organizational Day at Skwierzyna, Poland, May 10, 2019.
The battalion competed in sporting events such as football and volleyball. They also participated in fun competitions such as relay races and a best warrior competition.
“A lot of the Soldiers, they work long, hard hours,” said 1st Sgt. Branzy Ballay, 1st Sgt. of Alpha Company, 101st BSB, 1st ABCT, 1st Inf. Div. “This organizational Day is about taking a knee, having some fun, and being just a little bit competitive too.”
101st BSB is from Fort Riley, Kansas and currently deployed to Europe in support of Atlantic Resolve to conduct rigorous training in realistic training environments with allies and partners to ensure we are ready and lethal.
“I just think it’s great that we have the time to do this,” said Ballay. “We’re always busy, so just having this, being able to take a knee, is beneficial to the Soldiers. It lets us get our mindset back to where we need it to be.”
A U.S. Army rotational presence ensures interoperability and enables our European allies and partners to globally deploy their forces alongside the U.S.
“I think today does help build morale,” said Pfc. Jalene C. Paige, ammunition specialist with Alpha Company, 1st BSB, 1st ABCT, 1st Inf. Div. “We don’t usually get to come together and do fun events with each other. I think today was a good day for everybody to get out and enjoy ourselves.”
