FORT LEE, Va. — More than 130 Soldiers from the 13th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) staff deployed to Fort Lee, Va., to participate in their Command Post Exercise, April 13.
The CPX is the culminating training event for the 13th ESC prior to deploying in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in the summer.
"This CPX includes people coming in from all over the U.S.," said Maj. Peter Boyer, the assistant G-3 plans officer. "We have Reserve and National Guard units like the 90th and the 43rd Sustainment Brigades here at Fort Lee, and the 96th and 36th Sustainment Brigades participating from Fort Leavenworth. We even have people from the school house and from the Iraqi theater."
The purpose of the CPX is to train the staff in full spectrum logistics operations in a controlled environment that replicates operations in Iraq.
"We are treating this training event just like we would with a deployment to Iraq," said Col. Carolyn Carroll, the 13th ESC chief of staff. "We inspected the equipment we would take, manifested the staff, we flew on contracted aircraft, the only thing we did not do was to draw weapons."
The 13th ESC staff will remain at Fort Lee through, April 24.
