The Coast Guard is scheduled to support the Bethpage Air show, one of the nation’s largest yearly air shows, May 25-26.

The air show is an annual event that occurs every year on Memorial Day Weekend, attracts more than 200,000 visitors daily, and takes place in the skies over Jones Beach State Park, on the South Shore of Long Island. All military branches are represented at the air show, including the Coast Guard, as well as a number of civilian air demonstrations by both acrobatic teams and heritage flights consisting of antique aircraft.

The U.S. Coast Guard is scheduled to participate in both a mission support role as well as an aerial demonstration role, as Coast Guard vessels patrol the waters off of Jones Beach and Zach’s Bay, and a Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter present 30-minute aerial search and rescue demonstrations for air show visitors.

Coast Guard assets on scene include the Coast Guard Cutter Coho, WPB-87321, a Marine Protector Class patrol boat, as well as two response boats from Coast Guard Station Jones Beach. These maritime assets are augmented by five Coast Guard auxiliary vessels based at Jones Beach and Fire Island on Saturday, and three on Sunday. Partner agencies including the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, the Hempstead Bay Constable, the Oyster Bay Constable, the New York State Park Police, and the Nassau County Police will assist in maritime safety and security during the busy weekend. A helicopter from Air Station Cape Cod will be forward deployed at Republic Airport to provide mission support in case of search and rescue needs.
