Civil Engineer team members performed tactical convoy operations training during Exercise Global Dragon 2019 at the Guardian Centers of Georgia, Perry, Georgia, May 28, 2019.

Instructors led students through various convoy scenarios they could encounter while deployed in support of contingency operations.

Training was conducted at a large-scale facility with a variety of environments that allow students to experience conditions that are typically simulated.

“This has given us the ability to almost go real-world,” said Tech. Sgt. David Strobel, a civil engineer operations student with the 147th Attack Wing. “We have people who are engaging us on the side of the road, it’s that real-world feel without the real-world risks. It gives me the training to protect myself.”

The Airmen are trained to handle situations while traveling from point A to point B, such as an ambush, an IED detonation or a downed vehicle.

“This training that relates to their convoy operations gives them more knowledge,” said Zach Gayden, Guardian Centers class lead of tactical convoy operations. “The more knowledge you have in adverse conditions, the better chances you have for survival. More learning provides more options in real situations.”

During Global Dragon, Airmen utilize equipment and facilities that allow more in-depth, realistic training in a larger scale that wouldn’t typically be possible at their home stations.
