MANAMA, Bahrain (NNS) -- Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Fleet Logistics Center (FLC) Bahrain reenlisted two sailors in the Arabian Gulf on 25 May. Logistics Specialist 2nd Class Gabriel Kastner and Logistics Specialist 3rd Class Ian Schlueter. They both made their reenlistment a day to remember by reenlisting whilst scuba diving in the Arabian Gulf. They dived 2 miles off the Bahrain coast by a sunken tug boat.
Kastner enlisted in the Navy from Nevada in 2014. His previous tours were Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 24 (MALS-24) and USS George Washington (CVN 73) before checking into NAVSUP FLC Bahrain in 2017. Kastner is eager to succeed in the command; his hard work and dedication awarded him Sailor of the Year 2018.
Schlueter enlisted in the Navy from Ohio in 2016 and checked into NAVSUP FLC Bahrain in 2017. Schlueter is a hard worker whose efforts were paramount to him being Meritoriously Advanced to third class and selected as Junior Sailor of the Year 2018. When asked why reenlist and why whilst scuba diving he replied, "I want to continue serving my country, and I wanted to reenlist in a way I will always remember."
Their reenlistment officers were husband and wife Supply Officers Lt. Jonathan and Lauren Gazaille. Lt. Lauren Gazaille was their Division Officer in Code 430 at NAVSUP FLC Bahrain and Lt. Jonathan Gazaille is the Petroleum Operations Officer at Defense Logistics Agency Middle East. Both officers couldn't have been happier when asked to be part of these young Sailors' lives and this naval tradition.
The discharge was conducted on the boat and the paperwork signed at the office, but the oath was performed underwater where the participants had to periodically take breaths from their tanks between phrases.
Lt. Jonathan Gazaille said in his remarks, "Although I don’t work with you gentlemen, I notice the smiles and energy you bring to the command and that says a lot to the junior Sailors and those around you."
Lt. Lauren Gazaille said, “Working with the both of you has made my tour one I will never forget."
