FOB WARRIOR, Iraq -- Five E ("Echo") Troop, 163rd Cavalry Soldiers attached to the 116th Brigade Combat Team's Task Force 2-116 Armor reenlisted at Forward Operating Base Warrior, Iraq, October 3 at a special ceremony.
Sgt. 1st Class John Christiansen, Sgt. Etchie Smith, Spc. Travis Lamb, Spc. Lee Holmberg and Sgt. Aaron Vaughn reenlisted at the ceremony. All five Montana Army National Guardsmen were sworn in at the TF 2-116 Armor headquarters by 1st Lt. Alan Lloyd, Echo Troop's reenlistment officer.
"I congratulate these fine soldiers on renewing their commitment to serve," said Lt. Col. Michael Woods, TF 2-116 Armor commander. "It's men of this caliber that make this Army and our nation great."
Echo Troop Soldiers were mobilized with the 116th BCT to support Operation Iraqi Freedom III in the summer of 2004. The unit has been a key component of the 116th BCT's operations in Kirkuk, Iraq, since December 2004.
The 116th BCT is performing a four-fold mission in Kirkuk Province including training and supporting Iraqi security forces, helping Iraqis improve their local economy, assisting their new government and improving their communications. The 116th BCT is comprised of headquarters and staff sections, two armor battalions, a mechanized infantry battalion, a support battalion, a field artillery battalion, an engineer battalion, and various intelligence, signal, and specialized units. The 116th BCT is one of several Army National Guard units deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom III.
