Master Sgt. Lisa Stork, an acting first sergeant with the 178th Mission Support Group, makes her mission about people and professional development.

Stork temporarily deployed with the 178th Logistics Readiness Squadron (LRS), June 3, to Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam Air Force Base in Honolulu, Hawaii. Her role on this training trip was to ensure that Airmen had the tools they needed to succeed in a unique working environment.

“A first sergeant’s primary role is to lead and to make sure that all of the members are safe,” said Stork. “I want to make sure they are receiving great development opportunities and that they have the information that they need to fulfill their mission.”

Thirteen 178th LRS Airmen deployed to Hawaii to fulfill annual training requirements and build working relationships with members of the Hawaii Air National Guard. Stork connected with Airmen to learn more about their mission and to gain insight to how they train in a real-world environment.

“I’m a traditional Guardsman so I don’t get the opportunity to interact with my Airmen on a daily basis,” said Stork. “So this trip is a great opportunity to not only get to know my members better, but to also learn the mission.”

178th Airmen in the materials management, vehicle fleet management and fuel delivery organization teamed up with Hawaii Air National Guardsmen to provide additional support. Stork offered support to the Airmen to help fulfill any needs they may have while away from their native state of Ohio.

“My job as a first sergeant is to serve the people,” said Stork. “It’s really about going out to make sure that my Airmen are able to be their best both personally and professionally.”

Stork has been in the military for 19 years. She began her career in the 178th Force Support Squadron and wanted to become a first sergeant because of her passion for people and problem solving.

“Becoming a first sergeant allows me to help others and I absolutely love it,” said Stork.
