Naval Support Activity (NSA) Bahrain successfully completed the Final Evaluation Problem (FEP) operational assessment that took place June 2 to 6.
FEP is a Commander, Naval Installations Command (CNIC) tri-annual certification event assessing the command, control, communications and Naval Security Forces (NSF) on all U.S. Navy installations. The exercise was designed to assess NSF’s ability to meet all core competencies, including component and geographical operational requirements. At the conclusion, the CNIC assessment team recommended full NSF certification for NSA Bahrain.
The installation’s training officer, Jun Park, highlighted what the base did to prepare for the event.
“We've conducted multiple drills at the department level to refine security specific response plans. We then exercised critical installation functions as a whole to see if we could effectively respond, mitigate and defend from antiterrorism events that stressed the fire & emergency services, Navy health clinic, and the emergency management including the emergency operations center,” said Park. “The FEP process does not only show capability, but the training teams identify gaps and shortfalls within critical mission areas so that we can fix the discrepancies so that we can be better.”
NSA Bahrain’s security officer, Cmdr. Harry Cheng, explained what CNIC recommendation is meant for the base going forward.
“The base will continue to maintain a constant state of sustained readiness. The installation will continue sustainment training until the next assessment phase, conducting self-assessments annually and reporting results to Commander, Navy Region Europe, Africa, Southwest Asia,” said Cheng. “NSF Bahrain operates at the ‘tip of the spear’ supporting the warfighter. This certification reaffirms NSF Bahrain's level of commitment and readiness in support of U.S. Naval Forces Central Command.”
NSA Bahrain’s commanding officer, Capt. Darren Guenther, expressed his appreciation for base personnel and their efforts during the exercise.
"I'm extremely proud of the NSA Bahrain security team and emergency response personnel for passing the FEP certification with room to spare,” said Guenther. “Our personnel work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of base members, day-in and day-out. Their hard work was assessed and their excellence and diligence showed, they met all core competencies for a U.S. Navy Installation and passed with flying colors. I want our community to know that they can always have confidence that they are in safe hands."
