    III MEF Information Group

U.S. Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Riley Beuttler is a hospital corpsman with 3rd Law Enforcement Battalion and is participating in Khaan Quest 2019 at Five Hills Training Area, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, from June 14-28.

Beuttler is a native of Liberty Hill, Texas. During his late teens, Beuttler worked odd jobs and for a while felt aimless with his life. Seeking a higher purpose, he found himself enlisting into U.S. Navy as a corpsman at the age of 21. Beuttler has always known people serving in the military and he wanted to emulate them. The thought of helping people has always inspired him and joining the U.S. Navy has helped Beuttler fulfill that inspiration.

    Q&A:
Q: How do you like being a corpsman in the U.S. Navy?

A: It’s good! I like it. The job is very fulfilling and being around Marines is a lot of fun. You get a job to do and you just don’t end up twiddling your thumbs doing nothing. You have people you see every day that you get to help and seeing the difference you can make makes what you’re doing feel a little more tangible.

Q: How do you feel about participating in Khaan Quest?

A: The most exciting thing for me is interacting with all the different foreign militaries and all of their different medical personnel. I’m very curious on the way they do things, how similar or how different are their medical procedures from ours. Plus, you get to travel and meet new people. There’s so many cultures here and we all have the opportunity to share each other’s. So overall, it’s a great experience.

Q: Why are peacekeeping exercises important?

A: It’s important because it allows us to establish relationships with other countries. Developing these relationships will help us in the future, since we’ve established the skills we need to work together. There may come a time when we need to work together during a crisis, and these peacekeeping operations will allow us to lean on each other.
