U.S. and Romanian forces celebrated the U.S. Army’s birthday on June 14, 2019, with an Army run at Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base, Romania. Later in the day, the dining facility held a cake cutting ceremony. Today marks the 244th anniversary of the U.S. Army’s formation.
“The Army has been the evolution of sustaining freedom,” said Sgt. Maj. Willie C. Allen Jr., the support operations sergeant major with 16th Sustainment Brigade. “It started off with infantrymen, field artillerymen, sustainers, all coming together to forge freedom and protect our homeland.”
At MK Air Base, Soldiers uphold this ideal by training with militaries of different nations. In support of this joint presence, Romanian service members celebrated alongside U.S. Soldiers.
