Lieutenant Col. Andrew Lazar took command of the 58th Operations Support Squadron during a change of command ceremony at Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico, June 6, 2019.
The Air Force change of command ceremony is a military tradition that represents a formal transfer of authority and responsibility for a unit from one commanding officer to another.
Colonel Richard Carrell, 58th Operations Group commander, presided and challenged Lazar to continue to build upon the squadron’s success.
“I challenge you to not stop. Keep the squadron moving forward to even greater heights,” said Carrell. “I have full faith and confidence in your ability to lead and I know you will be a successful commander.”
Lazar took command of the 58th OSS from Lt. Col. Brent Harms after having served as the squadron’s operations officer. The mission of the 58th OSS is to provide training and support to tomorrow’s special operations, personnel recovery, and homeland defense warriors.
“Thank you for making my job as your operations officer easy,” said Lazar. “I am humbled, excited and ready to serve you as your commander.”
