Soldiers from across the 54 States and territories completed the first IPPS-A (Integrated Personnel and Pay System - Army) Basic Workshop at the National Guard Professional Education Center, Camp Robinson Maneuver Training Center, North Little Rock, Ark., June 14, 2019.

The five day workshop, developed by instructors at the Human Resources and Readiness Training Center, gives Soldiers a forum to answer any questions they have from the IPPS-A distance learning course and provides hands-on experience with the IPPS-A system before it is deployed to their state.

“This IPPS-A Basic Workshop, I highly recommend it to everyone,” said Sgt. Kathy Cepeda, human resource specialist, National Guard Guam. “It doesn’t matter your position. I recommend it for all Soldiers to attend and become educated in IPPS-A.”

IPPS-A consolidates multiple administration systems into a single application a Soldier can use on his phone or personal computer.

“The individual Soldier will have access to his HR personnel file from his phone or computer from anywhere in the world and request actions on it and follow those actions all the way up the chain.” said Chief Warrant Officer 3 Mark Brown, IPPS-A Instructor, HRRTC, PEC. “It’s a game changer.”

National Guard Bureau developed the curriculum from lessons learned provided by the Pennsylvania and Virginia National Guard; where IPPS-A was first deployed. PEC created from that a workshop where Soldiers first learn where to find and who to call to get the information they need to use IPPS-A without an instructor over their shoulders then they use the IPPS-A App in multiple work related scenarios.

“In this class they’re getting first hand experience with it. We have a live data set within a live training database that we’re able to plug them in and they can perform all the functions they’ll use when they go live in their state,” said Jonathan Milligan, Instructor HRRTC, PEC.

PEC is introducing the new online Human Resource system throughout it’s Human Resources and Readiness Training Center courses by demonstrating how IPPS-A will replace the current HR systems taught in those courses.

“Our curriculum has already started taking the form it will be in the future with IPPS-A,” said Milligan.

Currently, there are seven more IPPS-A Basic Workshops scheduled until the end of this fiscal year, and it has not been determined by NGB, if they will be continued for FY20.

“You’re getting real system experience and knowledge and taking that back to your states,” said Brown.
