Naval Medical Center Portsmouth (NMCP) hosted the annual command picnic on June 14. The event followed NMCP’s 2nd Annual Corpsman Challenge, and was in conjunction with the celebration of the 121th Hospital Corpsman birthday that followed on June 17. Staff and their families enjoyed the cookout with the added activities of bouncy houses, face painting, tug of war and water toss dodgeball, as well as checkers, corn hole and sack racing. Sandwiches, drinks, chips, snow cones and popcorn were served at the picnic. Additional food options, Cast Iron Catering and Capt’n Crabby, were on site as well.
The Corpsman Challenge is a daunting yet friendly competition between Sailors at NMCP as part of the celebration of the 121st birthday of the U.S. Navy Hospital Corps. The event included a 2-mile litter run with a mannequin, a 50-yard tire flip, a swimming event, patient transit to landing zone event and an obstacle course. The winners of the Corpsmen Challenge were announced at the command picnic, which directly followed the Corpsman Challenge.
