Q&A
Q: How do you like being a corpsman?
A: “I love it! I get the experience and I get to serve next to Marines, which I’m absolutely loving right now. Before, I use to work in a clinic and got to work in that setting. But now going with the Marines and getting field side knowledge to medicine is kind of what inspires me. And even after I become a doctor, I hope I can continue working closely with Marines.”
Q: Are you excited to participate in Khaan Quest?
A: “Yes. Just hearing about how many different countries are here just really pumps me up. I’m training with the Mongolians in [casualty care] and it’s going to be a challenge because I believe there’s only a few of them who can speak English. Despite that, I’m still pretty excited for it.”
Q: Why do you think Khaan Quest is important?
A: “I think it’s important because we’re forming relations and making allies. I think it’s great that we get to come out here and share our training and what we’ve learned and pass it on to the Mongolians.
Q: Why do you think women are important to have in peacekeeping operations?
A: “I think women play an important role because it helps us get different types of views. Men and women think about different things in different ways. It also helps show that woman power. You have little girls grow up, and not all of them wants to be a girly girl. Some want to get in on the action; we want to help just as much.”
Q: What role do you think women play in peacekeeping operations?
A: “I honestly think that women play the same role as men do and there shouldn’t be any difference. It’s awesome to see women coming up and being taken seriously by men as men do other men. It’s time that we stop seeing things like, ‘Oh that’s a man and that’s a woman. He has that opinion and she has this opinion.’ We should all be fighting the same fight and reaching the same goals. It shouldn’t be women do this and men do that. We’re all one team, one fight.”
