As with all things, exercise Saber Guardian 2019 comes to an end today in Bordusani, Romania. Saber Guardian 2019 (SG19) is a multinational exercise co-led by Romania’s Land Forces Command and USAREUR, that took place from June 3-24, 2019, at various locations in Bulgaria, Hungary, and Romania. It was first conducted in Romania in 2013 as an annual exercise rotating between Bulgaria, Romania and Ukraine until 2017 when it became biannual.
Two objectives have stayed consistent through each iteration: increasing interoperability and strengthening regional security cooperation.
Included among the many different training events at SG19, were a vehicle road march, several live fires, air defense artillery training and medical training, culminating in a Wet Gap river crossing. SG19 aims to improve the integration of multinational combat forces, increase interoperability and strengthen regional security.
Commanding Generals from Romania and the United States gave their thoughts and gratitude for the combined efforts of their two countries.
“The combined training opportunities that this exercise provides, greatly improves interoperability from participating Allies and partners that facilitates our abilities as a bilateral multinational force to respond quickly to regional crisis,” said Brig. Gen. Christopher R. Norrie, the Commanding General of the 7th Army Training Center in Grafenwoehr, Germany. “With each of these exercises we highlight to the world our commitment to each other by enabling us to respond to any possible regional threat by demonstrating ready and postured forces.”
