The Air Force promotes a culture of safety by ensuring Airmen operate with discipline and recognize the difference between acceptable mistakes and unacceptable behaviors.
“As outlined in our Striker Culture, “Excellence” is one of our Focus Areas,” said General Timothy Ray, Air Force Global Strike Command commander, in an official memo. “But we cannot be truly excellent without a commitment to safety.
“Even in the midst of a Great Power Competition, operating with discipline is key,” he added. “We need to be honest about what we can and cannot do, and unsafe equipment, policies, practices or resources are unacceptable.”
Summer is here and schools are out in the Big Sky Country, where safety is important on and off duty.
Below are some tips Airmen and their families can use this summer to minimize danger, make certain all Airmen are safe and ensure the wing’s mission proceeds without incident.
• Take time to rest and cool down.
• Drink fluids and minimize alcohol consumption.
• Pace yourself when running or exerting your body.
• Do not go into water unless you know how to swim
• If you get caught in a current while swimming, do not fight it. Stay calm and swim parallel to the shore until you get to safety.
• Learn CPR and other life-saving techniques.
• Walk on the sidewalk whenever possible and if no sidewalk is available, walk facing traffic.
• Follow the rules of the road and obey all traffic signs and signals.
• Only cross streets at crosswalks.
