BREMERTON, Wa. -- The Navy Exchange (NEX) at Naval Base Kitsap Bremerton was awarded the 2018 Bingham Award by the Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM) during a ceremony June 27.
“This award is presented to both the NEX and the local Navy command to recognize their partnership and commitment to support the quality of life of our military members and their families,” said retired Rear Adm. Robert J. Bianchi, Chief Executive Officer, NEXCOM. “All our NEXs and associates go above and beyond to provide premier customer service to our most deserving customers. These Bingham Award winners are truly the best of the best within our enterprise.”
Naval Base Kitsap-Bremerton’s NEX won Category 4 of the award for outstanding performance in operations, customer service and community support all while boosting sales to $23 million.
“This team really makes me so proud every day,” said Cricket Matthews, Naval Base Kitsap’s NEX general manager. "They are so great with the customers, that personal connection and taking care of them no matter what it takes. I think that commitment is what sets them above and apart from everybody else."
Matthews and her team take pride and joy in helping out the Sailors on base and all over the world.
“We could go anywhere and sell stuff, but it's totally different doing it for the NEX,” said Cricket. "Our only reason for existing is to take care of our military community, because once we pay all our bills, the rest is donated to Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR). That's a big deal for our team.
The Bingham Award is named in honor of the late Capt. W.H. Bingham, Supply Corps, U.S. Navy Reserves. Capt. Bingham was the Chief Executive Officer of R.H. Macy’s Company and was appointed by SECNAV in 1946 to lead an advisory board for the establishment of NEXCOM.
