FORT KNOX, Ky. -- The 1st Theater Sustainment Command hosted a Safety Stand Down Day for Soldiers and their families at Thorne Park June 27, 2019.
Safety stand down is designed to bring awareness to Soldiers and their families about safety within the installation and the community.
At this year’s safety stand down, each Soldier and family member participated in six different stations throughout the day.
Representatives from organizations within the local community and on post attended the safety stand down day including Red Cross, Army Substance Abuse Program, Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, Ireland Army Health Clinic, and the Fort Knox Fire Department.
Soldiers briefed about motorcycle and boating safety, while the Hardin County Sheriff’s office shared tips on traffic safety.
“This is a safety day for the military and their families,” said Capt. Marvin Rhinehart with Hardin County Sheriff’s office. “We were invited to talk about gun safety and interaction with law enforcement.”
Ireland Army Health Clinic dietitian and nutritionist Laura E. Bottoms was also invited to share the safety of taking supplements and healthy choices.
“There is a lot of misinformation out there to identify supplements that are safe and effective to take, so today we talked about what to look for and how to look for it and some of the reputable resources available,” said Bottoms.
Army Substance Abuse Program representatives also participated in the event bringing awareness to dangers of alcohol and drugs.
“We want to bring awareness to reckless use of alcohol and drugs,” said Dr. Debra L. Kirksey, ASAP specialist. “We also want to bring awareness to personal readiness as well as the suicide prevention program and all of the services that the Army Substance Abuse Program offers.”
The day wrapped up with the Soldier Family Readiness Program cookout where Soldiers and families enjoyed games and food.
