    Exercise News Day

Ft. Dix, N.J. (July 22, 2019) -- Soldiers from the 461st Human Resources Company, Decatur, Georgia and the 847th Human Resources Company, Ft. Snelling, Minnesota, are conducting their annual training, Human Resources Warrior, July 13 - August 2, Ft. Dix, New Jersey.

The Soldiers are going through three sections of training - personnel accountability, postal operations, and casualty operations - before completing a two-day field training exercise to wrap up their mission.

Chief Warrant Officer 2 Rosalyn Curbelo, the executive agent for HR Warrior, said that this training is the first of its kind.

Soldiers from the 310th Human Resources Sustainment Command, Ft. Jackson, South Carolina, were chosen to lead HR Warrior training after returning from a nine-month deployment to Qatar in December.

Sgt. Tracey Moultrie, an instructor for the casualty operations class, said that the training is a win-win for the instructors and the students. Her Soldiers, most of whom are junior enlisted, are able to gain experience as instructors and share their knowledge from the battlefield.

“During annual training last year, most Soldiers were just sent out to the field without any human resources training,” said Moultrie. “This exercise is important because they don’t get to do their job much during a normal drill weekend and all Soldiers need a refresher.”

Pfc. Courtney Leddy from the 847th HR Co., who just graduated from Advanced Individual Training in January said that the information she has learned over the last two weeks was not covered in AIT.

Fellow Soldier, Sgt. Emily Karl from the 847th HR Co., agreed, saying “this training has been so insightful. I had no idea there were so many important aspects to my job.”

“I want them to understand the severity of what they’re dealing with on a deployment. You need to verify the information of casualties and make sure you understand the information you are putting out. You will be in situations where you have to deal with death on the battlefield, or even a suicide, and you need to make sure whatever information you put in the block is the correct information because you will need to notify the next of kin.”

Of the three classes that they have gone through during AT, both Leddy and Karl agree that casualty operations has been the most interesting. “It is so important that we know this information because we could be dealing with the death of a Soldier and you want to make sure you get that information right when you report it up,” said Karl.
