CONSTANTA, Romania — Sailors assigned to Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit (EODMU) 8 participated in exercise Eurasian Partnership Mine Counter Measure (EP MCM) Dive 2019 in Constanta, Romania, July 22-26.
EP MCM Dive 2019 is a multinational maritime exercise held in Constanta, Romania, that is designed to improve operational and tactical interoperability among participating units.
“It is one of the activities where we invited divers from Georgia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria and U.S. to increase a shared understanding of EOD and dive procedures”, said Romanian navy Captain-Commander Catalin Gherghinescu, lead EOD for the Romanian detachment.
During this exercise, service members from every country had an opportunity to discuss procedures to render safe different types of explosive devises.
“Exercises like this give us a chance to work side-by-side with our partners in the Black Sea region”, said Lt. John Hogan, EODMU 8 platoon commander. “Sharing techniques with each other ensures that we can continue to work seamlessly in the future.”
Divers and EOD technicians from Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia and Romania worked with Navy EOD technicians to exchange and improve tactics, techniques and procedures.
U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied and interagency partners, in order to advance U.S. national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
