MILLINGTON, Tenn. – Sailors in the Pacific Northwest will soon have the opportunity to explore the benefits of Sailor 2025 and its impact upon their professional lives during an upcoming 2019 Career Development Symposium (CDS) Aug. 12-14.
Due to the large number of Sailors throughout the Pacific Northwest area, the CDS will be held at four waterfront locations to include NBK Bremerton, NBK Bangor, NAS Whidbey Island and NS Everett.
CDS is designed to give Sailors valuable career information and help them better manage their careers by allowing them to tailor programs to meet individual career goals.
"Career Development Symposium Pacific Northwest represents a one-of-a-kind opportunity for Sailors to hear firsthand about the numerous career-enhancing initiatives and personnel process improvements that we have been, and will continue to, implement throughout the Navy," said Vice Adm. John Nowell, Chief of Naval Personnel. "From demonstrations on the future of detailing to one-on-one time with community representatives, this is a can’t-miss event. I look forward to seeing everyone there and most importantly, getting audience feedback and suggestions as to how we can make things better for Sailors and their families.”
Sailors will hear from Navy leadership, enlisted community managers and detailers on how to take advantage of current benefits, and also get updates on new ones being offered. Key topics will include changes to the Performance Evaluation Transformation, MyNavy Career Center, detailing process and enlisted advancement.
CDS Pacific Northwest will feature Navy leadership including Chief of Naval Personnel Vice Adm. John Nowell, Deputy Chief of Naval Personnel, Rear Adm. Jeff Hughes, Assistant Commander Navy Personnel Command Rear Adm. Richard Cheeseman and Director Military Community Management Capt. David Whitehead.
Sailor 2025 is comprised of nearly 45 initiatives to improve and modernize personnel management and training systems to more effectively recruit, develop, manage, reward and retain the force of tomorrow. It is focused on empowering Sailors, updating policies, procedures and operating systems, and providing the right training at the right time in the right way to ensure Sailors are ready for the fleet. Sailor 2025 is organized into three main lines of effort, specifically Personnel System Modernization, Ready Relevant Learning and Career Readiness.
