Attendees to a Butterfly Field Day were led by Tim Wilder, chief of the Natural Resources Branch (NRB) with the Directorate of Public Works Environmental Division, on July 26, 2019, at a South Post training area during the first of two Butterfly Field Days at Fort McCoy, Wis.
Approximately 60 people from the post and the general public participated in this first-ever event, which highlighted the many rare species of butterflies that call Fort McCoy home.
The field days were held July 26-27.
The NRB recently received an award from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service partly because of the work done by branch personnel creating habitat for endangered butterfly species.
Located in the heart of the upper Midwest, Fort McCoy is the only U.S. Army installation in Wisconsin.
The installation has provided support and facilities for the field and classroom training of more than 100,000 military personnel from all services each year since 1984.
