A grasshopper sparrow is shown atop a plant in a prairie and grassland area at Badger Drop Zone on July 26, 2019, at Fort McCoy, Wis.

The drop zone is a natural habitat for many rare butterflies and grassland species of birds such as the grasshopper sparrow.

Wildlife management at Fort McCoy is coordinated by the Directorate of Public Works Environmental Division Natural Resources Branch.

Located in the heart of the upper Midwest, Fort McCoy is the only U.S. Army installation in Wisconsin.

The installation has provided support and facilities for the field and classroom training of more than 100,000 military personnel from all services each year since 1984.
