MILLINGTON, Tenn. – Naval Support Activity (NSA) Mid-South was selected as the fiscal year 2019 Secretary of the Navy Energy Excellence Award winner for small installation category.
The Department of the Navy’s (DON) Energy Excellence Awards program promotes excellence in the areas of energy security, new technology, innovation, program management, and efficiency across the DON.
The installation’s public works department led the efforts to reduce energy use and improve energy efficiencies. Partnerships with local organizations including involvement in a new solar farm, participation in Tennessee Valley Authority efficiency initiatives, and small-scale efforts all lead to the installation being chosen for the award.
“It took a tremendous amount of work from our public works team and our tenant commands,” said Gerald Batchelor, NSA Mid-South’s Installation Energy Manager. “It’s incredible that the achievements from a smaller installation like ours could make an impact towards the rest of the fleet.”
Installation leadership echoed the importance of tenant commands in the ability to be successful in this area of conservation.
“I am proud of the efforts our team has put in to being good stewards of our environment,” said Capt. Al Ross, commanding officer NSA Mid-South. “Our 64 tenants also play a major role in ensuring we kept our energy use down. I couldn’t be more thankful for their efforts.”
