Scotia, NY (08/27/2019) — New York Air National Guard Colonel Tammy Street, a Clifton Park resident, assumed command of the 109th Airlift Wing's 109th Mission Support Group during an August 3 ceremony at Stratton Air National Guard Base.
She was also promoted during the ceremony.
The 390-member mission support group includes the wing's security forces, civil engineers, air transportation specialists, logistics experts, communications experts, contracting officers, personnel specialists, and services specialists.
Street replaced Colonel Maureen Murphy who is retiring from the Air National Guard.
The 109th Airlift Wing operates a fleet of the largest ski-equipped aircraft in the world and supports National Science Foundation research in Antarctica and Greenland as well as Department of Defense missions in the Polar Regions.
Street previously served as the commander of the 109th Logistics Readiness Squadron.
She enlisted in the Kansas Air National Guard as a personnel specialists in 1988 and served as an enlisted Airman until she received her commission through Air Force Officer Training School in 1996.
As an enlisted Airman in the Kansas Air National Guard she also served as a personnel technician and a computer operator. Following her commissioning Street served as an Air Force acquisitions officer on active duty at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama.
Street joined the New York Air National Guard and the 109th Airlift Wing in 2000 as a personnel officer. Since joining the New York Air National Guard she has served as readiness management officer for the 109th Airlift Wing; director of military personnel for the New York Air National Guard; deputy director of federal human resources for the New York National Guard; Commander of the 109th Airlift Wing Security Forces Squadron; and Commander of the 109th Airlift Wing Logistics Readiness Squadron.
From January to July 2017, Street deployed to Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar and served as the Chief of the Logistics Readiness Division for the Combined Air Operations Center in support of U.S. operations in the Middle East. Her element played a key role in supporting 27,000 Airmen and 256 aircraft.
Street has a Bachelor's of Arts degree from Sonoma State University in California, and a Master of Business Administration from Auburn University in Montgomery, Alabama.
She is a graduate of the Air Command and Staff College, the Air War College and the Reserve Component National Security Course at the National Defense University in Washington, DC.
Street's awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Air Force Achievement Medal, the Antarctica Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Humanitarian Service Medal.
She and her husband Jon Street have four sons: Daniel, Joshua, Jon Michael, and Matthew.
