The 58th Operations Group Detachment Two was activated August 23, 2019, at Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico.
U.S. Air Force Colonel Richard Carrell, 58th Operations Group commander, presided over the ceremony where Lt. Col. Brian R. Dicks assumed command of the detachment.
“The mission of this detachment is straight forward,” said Carrell. “Prepare the wing to start formal training on the HH-60W, no later than March of 2021.”
March of 2021 is the goal set by the wing to be ready for the beginning of formal training on the HH-60W.
Once the guidon was unfurled, Dicks assumed command of the detachment.
“Brian, I challenge you to not take no for an answer…build this detachment into a working team so we can be ready for the new mission,” Carrell added. “I have full faith and confidence in your ability to lead and I know you will be a successful commander.”
The detachment will be responsible for validating training, ensuring appropriate facilities and equipment are available and standing up formal training for the rotary-wing personnel recovery platform for the new HH-60W Combat Rescue Helicopter.
“[The Airmen] bring experience and creative solutions to the table that I know we can tackle these sort of things,” said Dicks. “We can provide the Air Force with honestly the greatest product we can give them for the future generations of rescue.”
