JOINT BASE BALAD, Iraq — Senior Airman Stevi Stevens is the 332nd Air Expeditionary Wing's Tuskegee Airman of the Week, for May 18 - 24.
Col. John Dolan, 332nd AEW vice commander, presented Airman Stevens with the award and a commander's coin during a ceremony, May 29.
Airman Stevens, 332nd Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron enhanced tactical automated security system administrator, deployed here from McConnell Air Force Base, Kan., ensures the ETASS sensor field is operating to its most accurate standards.
On-duty, Airman Stevens fine tuned 256 new sensors to the ETASS. Overall, her work on the $17 million-system enabled a 92-percent detection rate and enhanced perimeter security at JBB.
Also, the Kingman, Kan., native was the first on scene to an indirect-fire attack. After locating the point of impact, she established a cordon and evacuated the area. During the incident, Airman Stevens expedited the transport of seven victims to the Air Force Theater Hospital. No lives were lost in the attack.
Off-duty, Airman Stevens completed three credit hours toward her Community College of the Air Force degree. She has completed 51 credit hours thus far and has maintained a 3.7 grade-point average.
In addition, Airman Stevens is her unit's advisory council vice president and volunteered 13 hours during National Police Week activities here. For her assistance in building a security-forces montage, she earned the Top 3 Unsung Hero Award.
By and large, Airman Stevens said others were her motivation and drive to success.
"My leadership and my co-workers gave me the tools needed to achieve this award," Airman Stevens said. "Most of my motivation is my children. I'm keeping myself busy, making time pass by faster so I can get home and see them. You've just got to keep your head up and make the most of the time you have here."
Airman Stevens' supervisor, Tech. Sgt. James McKee, 332nd ESFS logistics NCO-in-charge, explains why she is deserving of the award:
"[Airman Stevens] has serious motivation and a solid work ethic," said Sgt. McKee, who is a native of Carrollton, Ga., and is deployed here from Moody AFB, Ga. "She is literally the squadron's go-to Airman. She continuously strives for perfection no matter the task."
The 332nd AEW Tuskegee Airman of the Week is selected based on an Airman's accomplishments both on- and off-duty. Airmen in the pay grades of E-1 to E-5 are eligible.
