KABUL, Afghanistan — Afghan and coalition forces detained four men this morning, May 31, in Helmand province suspected to have ties to a local Taliban commander involved in coordinating suicide attacks, moving weapons and foreign fighters and intimidating the local population.

In Nahri Sarraj District, Helmand province, a combined force patrolled to a remote farming community near Badasya, where the suspected militants were staying overnight. One of the four suspects was initially non-compliant with instructions, behaving aggressively toward forces.

Although the situation could have escalated with lethal consequences, Afghan and coalition forces were able to subdue the man, detaining him and three other suspects without incident.
