The Post and Courier named Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Atlantic as the best place to work in the Lowcountry for the second year in a row during the Charleston’s Choice Awards hosted Sept. 26 at the American College of Building Arts.
“Receiving this honor a second time is truly humbling,” said Capt. Wesley Sanders, NIWC Atlantic commanding officer. “This command-wide award is a testament to the technical talent of our workforce and also the incredible culture and environment that exists at NIWC Atlantic.”
NIWC Atlantic has more than 4,900 employees, to include civil servants and military personnel – of those, almost 3,200 reside in the Lowcountry. The command continues to utilize employee feedback and recommendations to create a positive and diverse workplace culture.
“Earlier this year, NIWC Atlantic wrapped up an Organizational Assessment Survey (OAS), which garnered invaluable feedback from more than 3,000 employees,” said Sanders. “The data collected through the OAS provides leadership with a compass for shaping key operations and the core of our mission.”
NIWC Atlantic continues to double-down on refining special emphasis areas that address overall employee experience, to include flexible work schedules, education and training opportunities, telework policies and career progression resources.
“Over the last year we have made efforts to improve our employee experience and create a diverse and dynamic environment that allows our team to excel,” said Pete Reddy, NIWC Atlantic acting executive director. “This focus on our mission – with the understanding that our people are what makes our command great – has made NIWC Atlantic not only the best place to work, but the best place to serve.”
Charleston’s Choice Awards is an annual recognition program that was established by the Post and Courier in 2016. This year, the community voted for their top choices in more than 300 categories, to include food and dining, entertainment, workplace, health and wellness and more. The voting was held in two primary phases and culminated with the awards event where the top nominees in each category were recognized for their achievement.
As a part of Naval Information Warfare Systems Command, NIWC Atlantic provides systems engineering and acquisition to deliver information warfare capabilities to the naval, joint and national warfighter through the acquisition, development, integration, production, test, deployment, and sustainment of interoperable command, control, communications, computer, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance, cyber and information technology capabilities.
