KABUL, Afghanistan — An International Security Assistance Force service member was killed as a result of a mine strike today in southern Afghanistan.
"It is with sorrow that on behalf of ISAF, I offer our condolences and support to the family of our fallen soldier," said Brigadier-General Richard Blanchette, ISAF spokesperson. "To this grieving family, and to all the families with sons and daughters supporting the Afghan people, I share with you our continued commitment to deter and defeat the use of hidden and indiscriminate devices."
It is ISAF policy not to release the nationality of any casualty prior to the relevant national authority doing so.
Next of kin have been notified.
