The 55th Force Support Squadron resource management flight was recently presented the 2018 Air Force Resource Management Flight of the Year award.
The award was the result of their efforts in providing budgeting for appropriated funds and non-appropriated funds, as well as accounting, logistics, data automation and vehicle management support for the 55 FSS.
Thomas Fahrer, 55 FSS deputy director, said the flight contributed to the success of many large-scale projects throughout the year.
“They ensured numerous NAF construction projects were funded in a timely manner and they monitored the projects through to completion,” Fahrer said. “These projects included Golf Course Clubhouse upgrades, Golf Course Driving Range construction, a new bowling center project validation assessment and design…and more.”
The flight is unique within the Air Force as they combined the responsibilities of the budget analyst, vehicle control officer, contracting officer, accounting technician, purchasing agent, banking technician office manager, resource adviser, government travel card administrator, central cashier and file clerk all into one 12-person team.
“The 55 FSS Resource Management Flight performs all of their duties with a streamlined staff, less people than their peers in the Air Force,” Fahrer said. “They meet all of their workload on time, every time, and they commit resources quickly to ensure no loss in funds.”
Fahrer added that he is extremely proud of the flight’s accomplishments.
“Our Resource Management Flight works hard every day ensuring the FSS has the resources necessary to accomplish the mission. They often fly below the radar and don’t always get the recognition they deserve. It’s great to see them get recognized by the Air Force with this prestigious award.”
The flight was very grateful they were recognize for their hard work.
“It is great to see our hard work and determination has been recognized at such a high level,” said Heather Lingreen, 55th Force Support Squadron financial management specialist.
