KABUL, Afghanistan - Afghan and coalition forces detained four suspected militants during a planned operation early today, June 9, to capture a Haqqani commander operating in eastern Afghanistan.
In Besmil District, Khost province, forces patrolled to Ayitay village, approximately 30 kilometers west of Khost city, to capture a militant who, according to credible sources, is connected to the May 12 attack on the government buildings in Khost city.
Without incident, Afghan and coalition forces located and detained four suspected militants, including a man believed to be the targeted individual. There also were no civilians injured.
The Haqqani organization has an extensive network of terrorists in eastern Afghanistan, carrying out attacks against citizens and security forces. Afghan and coalition forces will continue to target the leaders who plan and direct these attacks, dismantling this extremist group until the Afghan people are safe.
