KABUL, Afghanistan — Afghan border police and International Security Assistance Forces successfully captured a large amount of insurgent weaponry and detained two insurgents in Paktia province on June 7.
Following information given by a local Afghan, ABP, Afghan national police and paratroopers from Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 1st Squadron, 40th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division conducted two operations and seized two large weapon caches stocked with munitions and explosives.
As a result of the first operation in the Ali Khail district, the combined forces discovered 49 Rocket Propelled Grenades, 8 RPG motors, one RPG launcher, four 82mm mortars with 23 fuses, 5 fragmentary grenades, 10 pounds of homemade explosives and 500 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. The forces also found 4 radios, 300 feet of command wire, 10 feet of detonation cord with blasting caps and an explosive detonation plunger system. During the operation an insurgent was also detained.
During the second mission, in Gardez district, ANP conducted a search and seizure operation which produced 12 RPGs, one mortar round, three AK-47s, one 9mm pistol and multiple rounds of ammunition. They also detained one insurgent.
All of the confiscated weapons are scheduled for demolition by personnel from the ISAF explosive ordnance disposal detachment.
No Afghan national security forces or ISAF Soldiers were injured during this operation.
