KATTERBACH KASERNE, Germany -- Halloween came early this year for Soldiers, family members and civilians assigned to the 12th Combat Aviation Brigade (CAB) at United States Army Garrison (USAG) Ansbach. The unit held its annual Boo Bash event at Hangar 5 on Katterbach Kaserne on Oct. 10, 2019. The event included trunk-or-treating, bouncy castles for children, a variety of food vendors and music.

The12th CAB Soldier Family Readiness Group (SFRG) host sthe event annually with the help of sponsors including Community Bank, and Service Credit Union. The highly anticipated event includes support from every company in the brigade, with dozens of volunteers spending weeks of planning to put together a memorable event.

“It’s lines of effort from everyone. It promotes esprit de corps from all the companies and gives everyone a chance to come together,” said 1st Lt. Ryan Richissin, Event Coordinator, 12th CAB. Richissin says the event is beloved by the community and it has one of the largest turn-outs of any event held by the the brigade. This was evident from the long line that began prior to the event.

The most highly anticipated part of the event was the “trunk-or-treat.” Dozens of volunteers decorated their cars, and dressed up as characters from popular movies like “It” to pass out treats to the children who attended. Over twenty vehicles were decorated with 50 volunteers handing out candy and interacting with attendees.

Liz Cole, a Battalion Family Readiness Group Leader, participated in her first Boo Bash this year and says she was thrilled with the outcome and how everything came together. “The community really loves this event, and they are really great with coming up with ideas and planning.”

Sgt. Brandon Brashere, Unit Public Affairs Representative says the event is designed to get Soldiers out of the barracks and bring all the families together.

“Germans don’t celebrate a traditional Halloween, so this event is designed to give them a taste of America while they are in Germany,” said Brashere.

The Boo Bash is held annually and sponsored by the 12th Combat Aviation Brigade Soldier Family Readiness Group.
