CAMP VICTORY, Iraq -- The 130th Engineer Brigade, V Corps, Hanau, Germany, took over command responsibility of Corps-level engineering capabilities from the 20th Eng. Bde., XVIII Airborne Corps, Fort Bragg, N.C., in a Transfer of Authority ceremony October 25, 2005, at the Joint Visitor's Bureau at Camp Victory.
More than 100 service members turned out to watch as Command Sgt. Maj. Charles Williams, sergeant major, and Col. Mark W. Yenter, commander, 20th Eng. Bde., cased their colors before Command Sgt. Maj. Michael Buxbaum, sergeant major, and Col. Thomas W. Kula, commander, 130th Eng. Bde. uncased theirs.
The 130th Eng. Bde. is starting their second deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom after having deployed the first time in March 2003.
"Another link in the chain is added today as the 130th Eng. Bde. returns to the fight in Iraq," Yenter said. "I am confident they will do what we all must do -- build on the successes of our predecessors while anticipating changes and posturing ourselves to make them a reality."
The combat engineers, builders, bridgers and mappers will accomplish what engineers have always done -- support combat operations, support reconstruction and do what others cannot do for themselves, Kula said.
"The 130th Engineer Brigade returns for a second tour in Iraq, and with the memory of those fallen comrades that have served before, we bring determination to help finish the job," Kula said.
