NAVAL SUPPORT FACILITY REDZIKOWO, Poland (Oct. 18, 2019) – The top leader of the Navy’s shore enterprise visited Naval Support Facility (NSF) Redzikowo and the Aegis Ashore Missile Defense System (AAMDS) site in Poland, Fri., Oct. 18, 2019.
Capt. Jon Grant, commander of NSF Redzikowo hosted Vice Adm. Mary Jackson, commander of Navy Installations Command, for a tour through the future housing and dining facilities during her first visit to the Navy’s newest installation which will be home to approximately 200 Sailors when construction is scheduled to be completed in late 2020.
Jackson also visited the NSF in Deveselu, Romania, during her regional trip to see the facilities and learn more about the day-to-day operations. NSF Deveselu is home to the first Aegis Ashore command that was activated in 2016 and recently underwent a scheduled maintenance period where a U.S. Army Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense battery was deployed to the base in support of the NATO’s missile defense mission earlier this year.
While in Poland, she also met with project managers from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to learn more about the construction timeline what, if any, assistance can be provided from her team. “We’ve got the right team assembled to deliver a quality project for you,” explained Justin Wetherwax, program manager for USACE, while discussing the timeline for completion and way forward for the new base which has experienced delays in construction but is nearing the final finishing stages.
Jackson oversees 10 regions and 71 installations located throughout the world that sustain the fleet, enable warfighters and support families. During her visit, Jackson learned more about the military-to-military partnerships with Polish counterparts and how Sailors like being stationed in Poland.
Once construction is completed, the Aegis Ashore site in Poland will expand a defensive capability that protects NATO European territories, populations and forces against ballistic missiles launched from outside the Euro-Atlantic region.
