CAMP KINSER, OKINAWA, Japan --Members of the local and U.S. communities gathered for the 2019 Camp Kinser Festival hosted October 26-27, Okinawa, Japan.

The festival was headlined by music talents to include MAX, Marc E. Bassy and Gnash.

Garret Nash, also known as the music artist “Gnash”, expressed his affection for the U.S. and local communities on Okinawa. “Hi my name is Nash and I love you,” he said.

“It’s really impactful for me to come out and play for the service member and local community because it really puts things in perspective,” he said. “When you see this many people you realize that it’s a community and I love that I can be a part of it. I am very appreciative of the people protecting me and keeping me safe.

The two day festival gave attendees a chance to relax and enjoy music, games and food together.

“My favorite part is connecting with people,” said Gnash. “When you play a show you are actually interacting with people, giving them hugs and saying hello. You get to understand what they are going through and hear about how you connect with them and understand that we are human. I just want to make sure everyone feels embraced and performing gives me that chance.”

One of the festival attendees spoke of their experience. “I am out here today working for one of the vendors,” said Chihiro Ota, a local Okinawa resident. “The music played is my favorite part of this festival.”

Kinser Festival provided Fun Land rides and bouncers, dozens of local vendors, and live entertainment. There were also some festival favorites, including burgers form Bulldog Burgers, Barbecue beef brisket and pork shoulder from Hickory House All-American BBQ, cheesy pizza from 305 Latin Bistro.

“It’s been really fun interacting with all the locals,” said Lance Cpl. Richard Baxley, with 9th Engineer Support Battalion. “We’ve had the opportunity to show the locals some of the equipment that the Marine Corps uses, and it’s been great seeing them so interested in what we do as Marines.”

As part of Marine Corps Community Services’ ongoing efforts to provide quality events and services for Marines and their families, the festival offered a multitude of fun filled activities including some well-known performers.
