Sergeant Major of the Army Michael A. Grinston toured Fort Riley Thursday, Sept. 25th and participated in Physical Training with Soldiers, attended an Enhanced Night Vision Goggle media event, and a round table discussion with 1st Infantry Division leaders.
During his one-day tour, SMA Grinston promoted Private Louis Santiago to the rank PV2 at the Cantigny Dinning Facility. Santiago is a Water Treatment Specialist assigned to 299th Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Armor Brigade Combat Team.
“It was an honor to be promoted by and meet the Sergeant Major of the Army,” said PV2 Santiago.
SMA Grinston also participated in the a equipment demonstration and capabilities brief at the Ft. Riley’s Training Support Center, which consisted of a question and answer session with media.
“This is a historic event,” Grinston said. “We are giving the Soldiers all the tools that they need to go out and do the things that our nation is asked by increasing their survivability.”
Program Executive Office-Soldier and Soldier Lethality-Cross Functional Team used Soldier feedback to design the ENVG-B, which allows the individual Soldier to see, understand, and act first during limited visibility conditions.
“The key is to enhance the squad lethality. And sharing those concepts and capabilities across the joint force as we move into a new era of modernization,” said Command Sgt. Maj. Michael A. Crosby, U.S. Army Futures Command.
After the ENVG-B and Smoke Truck demonstrations at the Training Support Center, SMA Grinston attended a round table discussion with senior leaders of the 1st Inf Div. and met with several Big Red One Soldiers across the installation.
