Every day, the Army recruits the Soldier of tomorrow, today!

The students of U.S. Grant High School, Oklahoma City, OK, visited the 696th Forward Support Company (FSC), 2nd Battalion, 4th Field Artillery Regiment, (2-4 FAR), 75th Field Artillery Brigade, on November 1, 2019 at Fort Sill, OK, to watch and learn about the “life of a Soldier.”

The purpose of the visit was to provide students with a unique opportunity to gain an insight into what it takes to be a Soldier.

The students arrived at the 2-4 FAR motor pool early in the morning on the first of November to meet with Soldiers from 696th FSC for a tour.

According to Capt. Sam Davis, of Oklahoma City East Recruiting Company, “the goal of the ‘Life of A Soldier’ program is to broaden the view and perception of the Army because most people think the Army is a TV series or the movies.”

At the motor pool, the students gained hands-on experience with military equipment to include the U.S. Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) Vehicle.

During the tour, students were able to ask questions and receive valuable insight directly from the Soldiers.

“The Army does a lot of different things,” said Maira Aviola, a junior at U.S. Grant High School. “I enjoy working on electronics so it will be cool to join the Army and work on the Army’s equipment.”

Following the motor pool, students were able to visit the Engagement Skill Trainer (EST) and gym.

At the EST, students were able to operate some of the Army’s equipment in a simulated environment. At the gym, the students saw the state-of-the-art facilities where Soldiers train and maintain their physical fitness.

Jesse Castro, a sophomore at U.S. Grant High School, stated, “The gym was really big, I thought it was going to be a small gym, but it was bigger than I expected.”

After the gym, the students were taken to see the Dining Facility (DFAC) and the barracks to see how Soldiers live.

“Giving a tour to the students was great, and I wished I had that when I was in school,” said Spc. Tim Lee, a Soldier assigned to 696th FSC. “To see how a Soldier lives and how everyday life is must be pretty cool.”

The Army is full of endless opportunities; these include trade skills, management skills, and money to go to college. A career in the Army also has benefits that last a lifetime for both the Soldier and their loved ones.

The 75th Field Artillery Brigade was honored to have hosted the ‘Life of a Soldier’ event and committed to helping the Army recruit the Soldier of tomorrow, today!
