FORT BRAGG, N.C.— The smell of cooking food filled the air as Soldiers lined up at a new food truck on post. They took turns placing their orders on a touch screen kiosk, and when their numbers were called, the Soldiers grabbed their food, sat on the curb and started digging in.
The Culinary Outpost food truck, run by culinary specialist Soldiers, held its grand opening on Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Nov. 7, 2019.
“This is really good, because we get to come over here and feed the Soldiers that are not able to make it to the DFAC (dining facility),” said Sgt. Suedna Cortes, a culinary specialist assigned 264th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 3rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command. “It gives Soldiers more options instead of going to the DFAC or traveling to the DFAC.Wwe will be right here waiting for them.”
Soldiers who have meal cards and count on going to the DFAC now have a food truck that will allow them to use their meal cards without having to spend their own money.
The Army has rolled out several of these food trucks on various installations. These trucks go to where the Soldiers live and train, and gives them a hot, healthy meal when they can’t make it to a DFAC.
“I love seeing the faces of the Soldiers as they enjoy the food,” said Spc. Alfonzo Smith, a culinary specialist assigned 264th CSSB, 3rd ESC. “And I love the fact we are providing good quality food that will help Soldiers be ready to fight.”
