ZAGAN, Poland – U.S. Army Soldiers from the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team (Blackjack), 1st Cavalry Division attended and participated in the Polish Independence Day Ceremony in Zagan, Nov 8.

“For the Polish Soldiers, this ceremony is not only an opportunity to commemorate all those who gave their lives in the fight for our independence,” said Polish Army Col. Piotr Franciszek Zieja, commander of 34th Armored Cavalry Brigade, 11th Armored Cavalry Division. “Independence Day is also the day when the most distinguished Soldiers receive promotions and all kinds of decorations – this time also from our American Allies.”

Col. Jeremy Wilson, commander of the Blackjack Brigade, and Command Sgt. Maj. Alexander Yazzi, command sergeant major of the Blackjack Brigade, presented four Polish Soldiers with the Army Achievement Medal on behalf of the U.S. Army.

“Today was truly an honor and privilege for us to not only participate in the Polish Independence Day ceremony, but to recognize the commitment and service of the our allies that have served alongside our U.S. Soldiers in Afghanistan,” said Wilson.

The Polish Soldiers earned an AAM for their actions while serving alongside U.S. troops in Afghanistan, May 2018 – Feb. 2019, in support of Resolute Support Mission under Train Advise Assist Command-East.

“Blackjack is the most lethal brigade combat team in the Army today, and we are prepared to stand alongside our allies in support of Atlantic Resolve throughout Europe,” said Wilson. “We are a team-of-teams, which includes our allies and partners, and these relationships are made stronger through consistent and collaborative training.”

Blackjack will operate in seven different countries and conduct rigorous, multi-faceted training with allies and partner nations. These trainings will build and strengthen the partnerships with allied forces, as well as using community outreach projects to build and strengthen community relations.
