WIESBADEN, Germany -- The 522nd Military Intelligence Battalion, 207th Military Intelligence Brigade-Theater (MIB-T), proved to be peerless this year, winning two awards in the U.S. Army's Supply Excellence Award (SEA) Program, during an award ceremony, Oct. 16.
The SEA Program recognizes supply excellence across multiple echelons of the Army. Winning one award is an achievement, but earning two is rare.
The ceremony's key speaker, Col. Doug Henry, assistant chief of staff G-4, U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command (INSCOM), addressed the audience with a few encouraging words.
"In my 26 years of service I can't remember a battalion in the Army earning both the Supply Excellence Award and the Army Award for Maintenance Excellence in the same year," said Henry. "It means you have systems in place. It's kudos to you as an organization for doing the right thing."
Earning these prestigious awards displays a high level of unit readiness and consistency in following procedures and processes.
Command Sgt. Maj. Humberto Rivera, the 522nd MI Battalion command sergeant major, noted that although the supply team won these awards, this level of excellence is displayed across the battalion.
"Day-in and day-out, you guys are the consummate professionals," said Rivera. "It was a battalion team effort. Take this opportunity to give yourselves a pat on the back."
This year the 522nd MI Battalion's hard work paid off immensely. In total, the battalion was awarded the Chief of Staff, Army Award for Maintenance Excellence, the Chief of Staff of the Army's Supply Excellence Award, the INSCOM Commanding General's Award for Maintenance Excellence, the INSCOM Commanding General's Supply Excellence Award, 14 Army Commendation Medals, three Army Achievement Medals and seven coins.
The 207th MIB-T conducts intelligence analysis, collection, and exploitation in support of U.S. Army Africa (USARAF) and U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) in order to set-up intelligence architecture for the theater, disrupt transnational and trans-regional threats, and promote regional stability in Africa.
