    GREAT LAKES, Ill. (Nov. 19, 2019) – Naval Station Great Lakes (NSGL) Navy Gateway Inns and Suites (NGIS) employees won, or were in the running for, multiple awards in the Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) Navy Lodging Employee of the Year program for 2019. Awardees were announced during a luncheon last week.

    “Every day, great people are doing great things at Great Lakes,” said Capt. Ray Leung, NSGL commanding officer. “I’m glad that our hardworking employees at NGIS are getting the credit they deserve for a job well done.”

    “We performed very well this year competing for the CNIC Navy Lodging Employee of the Year,” said Jerome Zlomke, Great Lakes NGIS General Manager. “At the region level, there were two winners and four runner-ups at CNIC.”

    Great Lakes NGIS employee Antonia Aguilar was recognized as CNIC Department Lead of the Year and Great Lakes NGIS employee Maria Monroy was recognized as CNIC Housekeeper of the Year.

    Aguilar provided direct supervision of 10 full time and flex housekeepers, three custodial workers, and four laundry workers. Among her achievements, she directly provided supervision of internal laundry operation which processed over 144,000 pounds of linen and assumed responsibility for development of employee work schedules, using occupancy forecasts to determine staffing levels to meet operational requirements. Through detailed scheduling, she reduced labor expenses by $60,791 from projected budget expense.

    Monroy cleaned over 3,750 rooms and suites with a 98 percent accuracy rate. She maintained the best cleaning time of 28 minutes per suite of all the housekeeping staff.

    Great Lakes NGIS employee Olga Gonzalez was recognized as CNIC Runner-up for Supervisor of the Year and Great Lakes NGIS employee Noel Ofilanda was recognized as CNIC Runner-up for Associate of the Year.

    Also recognized were Great Lakes NGIS employee Patrick Brown, who was nominated by Commander, Navy Region Mid-Atlantic (CNRMA) to CNIC as Trainer of the Year and Great Lakes NGIS employee Harmanjot Sangha, who was nominated by CNRMA to CNIC as Department Manager of the Year.

    Local standouts included Great Lakes NGIS employee Julieta O’Campo, who was nominated by NSGL to CNRMA as Front Desk Associate of the Year and Great Lakes NGIS employee Antonia Estrella, who was nominated by NSGL to CNRMA as Front Desk Associate of the Year.

    Great Lakes NGIS provides visitor quarters lodging for military and other Department of Defense (DoD) travelers on official orders, as well as authorized leisure travelers on a space-available basis.
