PENSACOLA, Fla. – Naval Education and Training Professional Development Center (NETPDC) held a multi-cultural event at Saufley Field to observe and celebrate Diversity Day Nov. 19.
Dallas Hansen, a NETPDC Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps supply technician, coordinated the command’s Diversity Day event.
“Diversity Day is a great opportunity to learn about the various cultures represented at NETPDC,” said Hansen, who felt compelled to organize this event to stress the importance of understanding various cultures and diverse communities. “Each individual on this planet is unique and wonderfully made, and we need to take it upon ourselves to learn about each other's backgrounds.”
The event consisted of a variety of cultural foods, educational speakers, interactive presentations and Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute (DEOMI) displays.
Capt. Brett St. George, NETPDC’s commanding officer, spoke about the value of diversity.
“Diversity is what makes life rich,” said St. George. “What makes us great is our diversity of thought, which is a product of influences on the outside and inside of each person. And that is what we celebrate today.”
NETPDC's mission is to provide products and services enhancing and enabling training, education, personnel advancement and career development Navy-wide. The primary elements of the command include the Navy Advancement Center (NAC) and the Voluntary Education (VOLED) and Resources Management departments.
