A group of Team Mildenhall Airmen volunteered their time to visit a primary school in Newmarket, England, Nov. 25, 2019.
The Airmen read to the children and answered their questions about what the Airmen do on base.
Airman 1st Class Janet Abilez, 100th Operations Support Squadron airfield management coordinator, said she enjoyed participating in the event and connecting with the children since she used to be an art teacher.
“I miss spending time with children, and it was a great way for us to connect and collaborate with the community,” said Abilez.
The school personnel were also grateful for the opportunity to meet and talk with the Airmen.
“It was important to have the Airmen come to the school because we want the children to have high aspirations of what they can do in the future,” said John Hollick, Houldsworth Valley Primary School assistant head teacher, “and we do that by getting them to meet and ask questions to people in the local community.”
Natalie Murphy, 100th Air Refueling Wing community relations advisor, said the visit was another successful way to build relations between the Airmen and their British neighbors.
“This gave the school and its children a better understanding of what Team Mildenhall does, and show that the Airmen are willing to give their time back to the community.”
