The Connick School of Irish Dance clogged and tapped their way around the residents and staff of the Wm. Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center, Nov. 27, as a way to bring in the holiday.
The dancers, ranging in ages from six to seventeen, serenaded everyone in the form of tap, ballet, jazz, and square dancing. Though the dance troupe is based out of Charlotte, N.C., the local students from the Lexington, S.C. school, took time from their Thanksgiving break to bring a bit of joy to the Columbia VA Health Care System.
One of the students, Madison Brooks, is already familiar with the facility because she has volunteered her summer months as one of the student volunteers.
“This is a great way for us to get more students to interact with the Veteran population,” Brooks said. “We all think this is just really cool.”
Carrie Jett, a recreation therapist for the Columbia VAHCS, was pleased with the student performance and the staff turn out to witness the entertainment.
“We appreciate them coming out to share their holiday time and give us this performance,” Jett said. “This is just another way to lift the spirits of our Veterans, and to have the youth do it for them is just wonderful.”
