Bahrain Defense Force, U.S. Navy increase medical engagement training

RIFFA, Bahrain (Nov. 18, 2019) U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman from various ships and Bahrain Defense Force (BDF) Paramedics completed prehospital trauma scenarios as part of an engagement with U.S. Naval Forces Central Command (NAVCENT) and the BDF Royal Medical Service at the Crown Prince Center for Training and Medical Research.
The Sailors and BDF Paramedics went through various medical scenarios to exchange knowledge and understanding of various techniques and familiarization with different types of medical equipment.
“The engagement was an overall success. The U.S. Navy Independent Duty Corpsmen (IDC) and BDF Paramedics were able to share medical knowledge, demonstrate techniques and practice with U.S. and Bahrain medical equipment,” said Lt. Shannon Jackson, officer in charge of the medical training engagement. “This exchange has definitely fostered cooperation and interoperability between the two nations.”
By conducting this training engagement, the IDCs and BDF Paramedics strengthen medical skills and knowledge, while building even better partnerships with both nation’s medical personnel.
“This engagement has helped develop the framework for a continued relationship with the BDF Royal Medical Services and Crown Prince Center for Training and Medical Research,” said Jackson.
This medical training engagement is the first of four with the BDF Paramedics and Navy IDC’s.
The U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility encompasses nearly 2.5 million square miles of water area and includes the Arabian Gulf, Gulf of Oman, Red Sea and parts of the Indian Ocean. The region is comprised of 20 countries and includes three critical choke points at the Strait of Hormuz, the Suez Canal and the Strait of Bab-al-Mandeb at the southern tip of Yemen.
